Glooscap is a 30 (32'6"" overall) "Down-East" sports cruiser (deck house, fly bridge & cockpit) with dual helm stations, build on a semi-displacement, lobster hull -- high bow, low stern. A nice compromise among stability, economy & speed. It was built in 1990, 1of 12, by Cape Nova Boats in Nova Scotia. The beam is 11 6". It draws 3. The traditional "down-east" look is furthered by teak window and cockpit trim.
The engine is a turbo-charged 6 cylinder Cummins 220 (1600 hrs.). A history of engine maintenance is available. Engine hoses were replaced in 2005; the transmission rebuilt in 2005. There is a large 4-blade prop. It was balanced and the cutlass bearing replaced in 2006. Depending on wave conditions, at 1800 rpm the boat cruises at 9-10 kts.; at 2000 at 10-11; and at 2200 rpm it makes 12-13. The maximum rpm for the engine is 2600. Running about 10 kts., the engine uses 3.8-4 gals/hr. At higher rpms the turbo engages and increases efficiency. There are spare parts for numerous expensive engine parts, including: alternator, fuel pump, water pump, belts, thermostat, impeller, belt tensioner & filters.
The boat is equipped with radar, depth finder, GPS, radio and auto-pilot. She has 2 house and one starter batteries, plus a solar panel (2010). The interior has 110 and 12 v. electrical systems. There are two 90-gallon fuel tanks & two primary fuel filters in parallel with valves to change the filter in use. There is a vacuum gauge that notes when fuel flow to the engine is being obstructed. There is a 58-gallon water tank and an 11 gal. hot water heater, both new in 2011.
The cabin house is trimmed in white oak, has a helm station, galley & salon with L-shaped & short settees. There is substantial storage beneath the seating. The larger settee converts to a double berth. The house has large windows that are screened & have curtains. Entry from the cockpit is with a double sliding glass door with screen & curtains. The boats broad beam allows for a very spacious cabin. There is an AM-FM radio-cassette player with 2 speakers in the cabin & 2 on the fly-bridge. Head room is 6 6". The settees and helm seat were reupholstered in 2008. The cabin has one solar-powered and 2 passive air vents and a Volvo diesel heater. The galley includes a refrigerator with small freezer & 3-burner propane stove with oven. The counter has a tier of drawers as well as an extra large pot drawer under the stove & additional storage under the sink.
Below is a v-berth (with storage below the berths) with shelves along each side the full length of the berth, as well as the head & a large locker for hanging clothes and food storage. The v-berth has a deck hatch & 2 ports; all open and are screened. The fly-bridge has a bimini & a large storage space under the helm seat. A canvas cover protects the bridge & helm seat when not in use. The cockpit has hot/cold fresh water shower, raw water wash down, a rack for oars, boat poles, etc., a rack for the outboard & a light. There is a transom door to the swim platform, which has a swim ladder.
The hull & deck house are cored, allowing for a strong, light boat & good sound insulation. The bottom is barrier-coated to insure against moisture absorption & is in excellent condition.
The primary anchor is a Delta with 25 of heavy chain & 250 of 7/8" braid rode. There is a substantial bow pulpit & a manual windlass. The back-up anchor is a Fortress with chain & rope rode. There are ample fenders, dock lines & longer lines, as well as fender boards.
The boat comes fully-equipped, including a 9 inflatable dinghy with 3 hp outboard, pots, dishes, flatware, utensils, anti-chafing gear, safety equipment, life jackets, charts, cruising books, an open-weave cover for the brow windows, a sun/rain cover for the deck hatch & -- those essentials for good boating -- a corkscrew & a fly swatter.
